On June 10-11, the 121st session of the UN Tourism Executive Council was held in Barcelona, Spain, under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The session brought together representatives from over 30 member states of the organization.

During the event, Kenan Gasimov, Head of Staff of the State Tourism Agency highlighted Azerbaijan’s ongoing collaboration with UN Tourism in preparation for the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), which Azerbaijan will host in November 2024.

Qasimov emphasized the critical role of tourism in climate change policies, noting that COP29 will provide a platform for broader discussions on sustainable tourism practices. He also called on Executive Council members to support joint initiatives between UN Tourism and COP29 organizers to strengthen the tourism sector’s contribution to climate action.
